Jason Garrett – Steady As She Goes for Dallas Cowboys & Jerry Jones
Ahhhh, what a difference a year makes!
This time last year saw the Dallas Cowboys as an enigma. While the signs were all there leading to optimism, three straight 8-8 seasons brought it’s own share of measured skepticism. It seemed that a fourth year of 8-8 was not out of the realm of possibility.
It was presumed that Jerry Jones’ patience would not endure another year of such mediocrity. Such exhaustion would find the illustrious Dallas Cowboys Owner firing his second “Tom Landry.” Of course, no one really wanted to entertain such depressing thoughts.
Little did Cowboys fans, as well as pundits, know what was in store for them. The playoff run of America’s team was a welcome reality not seen around here in more than almost decades. Cowboys fans and others, especially the NFL and its broadcast networks, were giddy.
While players and coaches get all the accolades for such accomplishments, little fanfare is supplied for, what has proven to be, the most profitable asset in the Dallas cowboys organization. That asset has been the focused mindset initiated and diligently maintained by Jason Garrett from the beginning of his tenure as Head Coach. In fact, it has been so profitable that Jerry Jones may be it’s most surprising proponent, in spite of his tendency to allow all marketable moments to hold sway over his immediate words and actions, thereby destroying whatever plan was in place.
Yes, Jerry is definitely on the Jason Garrett Plan. The last two Training Camps have begun without a Jerry Jones trademark, Super Bowl prognostications of his beloved ‘Boys. Jerry still loves to hold Interview Court as the main attraction while talking shop. But the effect of Jason’s influence can definitely be seen and felt in what Jerry doesn’t say these days.
Of course, some could attribute this reigning in of thought
and action due at least partially to his frighteningly close encounter of suffering the legal effects of keeping company with women not his wife. Add to that the example provided by the NBA and Donald Sterling of what can happen to prominent Sports Owners when their private conversations become public knowledge, and I’m sure at least a slight case could be made that Jerry Jones has been taking notes.
But one thing is crystal clear. The Jason Garrett era has seen a steady and noticeable increase in affairs run by
Stephen Jones instead of Jerry. It is obvious that Jason has provided a business model that Jerry Jones is appreciating as well as implementing. And the fruits of such a focused and diligent implementation of that plan are finally being seen and enjoyed. And all Cowboys fans hope that the harvest continues to increase.
