Rookie DE Randy Gregory Proving Himself As More Than Just A Pass-Rusher With Cowboys
When the Dallas Cowboys drafted Randy Gregory in the second round of the NFL Draft, the general consensus was that he would help fill a much-needed role as a rusher on passing downs.
More than halfway through training camp, it appears that he has a chance to do more than just that. Despite working behind both Jeremy Mincey and Greg Hardy, and despite being 20-30 pounds lighter than where the Cowboys believe his ideal playing weight is, Gregory has shown the coaches that he can be an every-down lineman if they need him to be.
“He’s come along as a pass-rusher, and he’s tough on the run,” said defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli. He’s physical and he’s strong. Very, very strong. That’s really surprised me. I knew he was strong, but he can play first-down.”
