Russell Nelson is a 2029 RHP/OF with a 6-0 160 lb. frame from Gilbert, AZ who attends Casteel. Medium, athletic frame with long levers and plenty of projection remaining. Recorded a 7.16 second sixty-yard dash time. Primary right-handed pitcher that worked a full windup delivery with deliberate pace, drop-and-drive lower half mechanics and some extension through release. Fastball worked in the 79-82 mph range for the majority of his outing and topped out at 84 mph from a lower three-quarters arm slot. Flashed some natural arm-side run to the fastball, showed feel for spin with ability to land for strikes and manipulate it a bit when ahead in the count. Will continue to improve with proper mechanical refinements and additional velocity. Secondary outfielder, showed deliberate footwork into the fielding process, fields off to the side and carries momentum into release. Produced fairly accurate throws up to 83 mph during drills. Right-handed hitter that hits from an even base with a tight hand set, high back elbow and small stride into launch. Middle-of-the field approach with present bat speed and some impact potential when on-time and in-sync, will continue to improve with proper swing adjustments and additional strength. Good Student.
